No Shortcuts to Health and Weight Loss

For some, losing weight is a never-ending battle that entails personal and social consequences. Being overweight is now a health problem for about two-thirds of the current U.S. population. Being overweight and obese increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and some forms of cancer, and other diseases. As a social problem, being obese or overweight makes a person more susceptible to ridicule and name-calling. In fact, it is now common to hear friends and relatives greet each other by saying, "Oh! You gained weight!"

The more complimentary form is when people greet others by saying, "Wow! You look like you've lost a lot of weight!" Either way, the subliminal message of these greetings point to society's obsession with physical beauty. No wonder, many overweight, and obese individuals struggle with maintaining their confidence and self-esteem in the face of society's aesthetic demands.

Due to these health risks and social consequences, more and more people are now becoming more conscious about their figure and lifestyle. Fitness and health industries are now experiencing a business boom due to the sheer number of people who want to shed excess weight. Somehow, even the busiest executives and hardworking employees are finding time to break some sweat. A lot of people have also become more conscious about their eating habits to the point that they now count every calorie in every meal they have.

Still, not all can afford the expensive gym memberships, much less have time to run on a treadmill or lift weights. Majority of people who need to lose weight struggle with having to cut down on food intake or in staying away from calorie-rich foods. Lack of time, discipline, and will to shed off those excess pounds has led many weight watchers to a "quick fix" method --- using so-called "miracle diets."

While a lot of diet plans offer "guaranteed" results, many do not have the focus to stay with their eating plan. The effectiveness of the trendiest and most popular diet fad ultimately depends on a person's ability and willingness to choose the right food and amount to eat. It's really not about the recipe...but about the person's desire to cut down on food.

Now, for some, there is an even better "quick fix" method of going on a diet. Instead of going to the gym and missing out on one's favorite delicacies, some people take weight loss pills. These weight loss pills work by helping reduce the absorption of fat in food that we eat; or act as an appetite suppressant.

There are a number of weight-loss pills available at the local drugstore, supermarket, and health food store. There are even weight loss pills that can be bought online. However, the safety and efficacy of these pills have not been adequately substantiated or proven. Some fake weight loss pills are downright dangerous.

Most people have heard of contemporary herbal weight loss pills, such as the ephedra (ma huang) pills or Hoodia Gordonii which are very popular today. In the last few years, hoodia has been heavily marketed as the latest in a long list of "miracle herbal products" that promote weight loss and overall health. The ban on certain weight loss diet pills such as ephedra has opened up a new market for Hoodia.

The said drug is now sold in health shops and on the Internet in various forms: capsulated, powder, liquid, or as tea. Despite its popularity, there is no published research or random controlled trial in humans to show that Hoodia is safe or effective in pill form. Many of the Hoodia products being sold today are difficult to analyze in terms of purity or freshness.

To provide the public a safer and tested product, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a reduced-strength, over-the-counter version of weight loss ingredient called Orlistat. It is a prescription weight-loss medication for adults aged 18 and older. Orlistat, otherwise known as Alli, helps promote weight loss by decreasing absorption of fat by the intestines.

The capsules are taken with meals, up to three times a day. This ingredient or pill is among the list of very popular weight loss diet pills. Still, Orlistat is intended to be used in conjunction with a reduced-calorie and low-fat diet, and regular exercise.

Losing weight is important to maintain one's health and to sustain a person's sense of comfort and confidence in social settings. People who are still in search for the best weight loss diet pill should make sure that the products they use are safe and FDA-approved. Losing weight should also be done in a very gradual manner.

Starving one's self is a no-no. Indeed, losing weight should ultimately be about regaining one's health and not just to attain physical perfection --- if there is such a thing. Losing weight and reaching the ideal number of pounds takes time. There are no shortcuts to weight loss and to achieving optimum health.

Health and fitness through weight loss.

Health and fitness are most of the time associated with physical appearance-especially weight. And why not? It is the weight of the person can tell whether he or she is living a healthy lifestyle due to the foods and habits that he or she has.

For those who think that their weight greatly affects their self-esteem because of physical appearance, health, emotional stability, physical abilities and the overall quality of their life in general, then it is about time that they contemplate on losing weight.

When does losing should start?
People who have finally decided to lose weight should know where to begin. First, he or she must determine the real reason or reasons why they would want to lose weight. By determining and establishing the reason/s why one would want to lose weight, this can help him or her because they can these as motivations during the weight loss phases they are about to face.

Next, they must know it within themselves if they can truly and wholeheartedly commit to doing the things necessary for them to lose weight. By asking one's self if he or she is ready to permanently change what they eat, how they eat, their behavior and their activity levels, the possibility is greater that they would lose weight faster and safes.

Third, they must look for a back up the support system in case they can no longer manage weight control on their own. And last but not the least, they must make sure that they are strong enough to deal with the possibility of failing if they do not achieve their desired weight or result.

One of the most important things to remember before losing weight is that the person should seek professional help. This is a must that one chooses a responsible and safe weight loss program or plan carefully. One must also make sure that he or she is willing to undergo for a trial period before investing time, money, and effort in enrolling to a specific weight loss class.

Tips for losing weight
Experts say that two of the most crucial factors that affect weight loss are food-or calorie-intake and the frequency of physical activities such as exercise. Although it may seem easy to monitor calorie intake and exercise regularly, it is not always effective especially if the person doing it is not determined and disciplined enough. For a person to achieve their weight loss goals here are some tips that they can use:
1. Don't ever skip regular meals. You must not forget that food nourishes the body. Although dieting or cutting down on food intake can help one lose weight, this cannot assure permanent weight loss because they will tend to eat more the next meal and the meals after that.

2. Regulate the food intake. Eating in smaller amounts or food portions will help one cut down on calorie and fat intake.

3. Monitor gradual weight loss of about 1 to 2 pounds weekly without irritability, fatigue, or weakness. This will allow your body to regain the lost water and fats.

4. Selecting healthy food choices. Choosing the foods that a person can eat from the food pyramid would help him or she develops a well-balanced diet as well as good eating habits.

5. Cut down on calories properly. If one is losing weight to achieve health and fitness, he or she must make sure that they know their body's required calorie-intake because cutting too many calories can slow down metabolism. This will also make it difficult for the body to consume the necessary nutrients it needs to perform well.

The road to health and fitness

Walking towards health and fitness is not really the hard, arduous job that everybody seems to think it is. When you really think about it, the hard part is often the start. Afterwards, everything else will be easier once you really get the hang of it. All it takes is discipline and commitment.

Below are some tips on how to get a head start on your road to health and fitness. Read each one and you'll realize that it is actually easier to undertake. You just need to take the first few steps.

1. Start small If your favorite dish is something that your doctor asked you to avoid, there is no sense in skipping it altogether and then binging on the dish when you can't take the abstinence anymore. Take moderate steps towards the goal. If you eat the dish everyday, try to cut down on your consumption and make it just three times a week. IF you have managed that, cut down further and make it once a week. That way, you are able to still enjoy the food and not increase your craving for it.

2. Plan modestly Set goals for yourself, but that does not mean that you have to kill yourself to get it and when you don't you'll also kill yourself. Setting too high goals will often only lead to disappointment and frustration. When you plan, make sure that you can do it. How will you know? Be realistic. You know what you are capable of. It is better to set goals for yourself that you know you can do. Accomplishing them will give you a sense of achievement that will make you more confident and more willing to continue with your task.

3. Have a buddy Sharing the aches and pains as well as the joys of accomplishment with a buddy will help make the process easier and more bearable. In fact, people with a buddy when doing a self-improvement project are better able to stick with their plans than those who are doing the projects alone. This is because when you have a buddy with you, he or she acts as a support system that will help keep you on track and prevent you from giving up. Besides having a friend with you experiencing the same things makes the process more fun and more enjoyable.

4. Have discipline This is one of the few things that will make or break your plans to finally live a healthy lifestyle. In order to really stick to the plan, you need to develop self-discipline especially when it involves things that you really want to do or things that you are used to doing. Temptations along the way will be many and you need to be prepared to face all that!

5. Do it for yourself, a lot of people start to live a life of health and fitness when they are trying to get a new guy to notice them or when they want to impress a lover. Although these are valid reasons, sometimes, they are not enough to see you through the entire process. It is better that you do it for yourself because you want a healthier and better you than do it for other people's approval. After all, the only approval that you will ever need is your own.

Heart Attack and Stroke: Silent Killers on the Loose

Heart attack and stroke two of leading causes of death and disability around the world. Clearly, not enough people know about the risks and factors surrounding these two medical emergencies. For example, many thought that as long as they do not smoke, consume too much alcohol, and regularly have exercise they would be immune from this killer disease. However, a number of individuals fail to watch their diet, which is sometimes composed of fatty foods and fast food orders. These facts should not be taken for granted. Read on to find ways to protect yourself and loved ones from this dreaded disease.

A heart attack develops when an artery becomes blocked, therefore preventing blood that carries oxygen and essential nutrients from reaching the heart. With insufficient oxygen supply, an area of the heart or is permanently damaged. Some heart attacks are abrupt and severe but most cases develop slowly, usually with slight pain or discomfort. Individuals that are affected may not be sure of the symptoms and they seek medical attention when it's already too late.

The following are possible warning signs that can mean a heart attack is taking place:
Discomfort at the center of the chest that may last more than a few minutes. This may feel like squeezing pain that goes away and then comes back;
Discomfort or pain in the areas of the upper body like the jaw, neck, one or both arms, stomach, or back;
Shortness of breath that may take place with or without chest pains; and
Cold sweat, cough, nausea, vomiting, light-headiness, and fainting.

Stroke or "brain attack" occurs because of the absence of blood flow to the brain (ischemic stroke) and, in some cases, there is bleeding in the brain (hemorrhagic stroke). According to medical experts, blood vessels in the brain are damaged because if fat deposits or a blood clot that may block a part of the brain. With insufficient blood that carries oxygen and nutrients, brain cells die and cause permanent damage.

The warning signs of stroke include:
Numbness or weakness in the face, arm or leg. This numbness usually occur on one side of the body;
A severe headache with unknown cause;
Swallowing difficulties or drooling;
Uncontrollable eye movements, eyelid drooping;
Loss of balance or coordination; and
Personality changes, like depression.

Individuals who experience these signs, they should act fast and go to the hospital immediately. Getting urgent treatment may save the victim's life and reduce the chances of developing a disability. Medical specialists advise patients to receive therapy three hours after the stroke. The stroke should be treated with intensive care and life support that only hospitals can support.

A healthy lifestyle is crucial in the prevention of heart attack and stroke. Some factors that may contribute to the risks of stroke include age, family history of stroke, high cholesterol, smoking, and diabetes. In addition to these risks, alcohol and drug abuse, head injury, and bleeding disorder may increase the risk of stroke.

The possibility of recovering most or all of body functions of those who survived from stroke is only 10 percent. Most even experience long-term disabilities. Therefore, the best immunity when it comes to stroke is having a healthy and active lifestyle.

How To Do A Vegan Lifestyle

How Much FAT Should I Eat?

A vegan lifestyle has been hailed as one of the most kind and compassionate way of a food lifestyle. If a person is using a vegan lifestyle, you are pledging not to eat any kind of meat or animal products.

Most vegans believe that animal farming is a very cruel way to make money. Raising animals and turning them into meat and other products that are beneficial to humans is very inhumane.

Even though, many vegans admit that there is nothing mystic or magical attribution to their way of life, which is rumored by some religious groups, however, vegans, undergo a different experience because of their eating habits. Let us try to know the different aspects of the vegan lifestyle, and try to examine the importance of this certain lifestyle.

There are several online sites that are maintained by dietitians, or health experts that are also vegan. These sites can provide you with some helpful tips and advices on vegan diets and how to prevent possible nutrition deficiencies that some people believe is a major flaw of a vegan diet. But these people are simply ignorant of the specific information or just trying to scare you so that you will not try or discontinue a vegan lifestyle.

There are people who are vegans for almost 20 years and there was not a moment when they have craved for meat products because they have planned their diets properly that they have no problems while in the lifestyle. There are numerous recipes available on different online sources.

Some of the things that you can do while in a vegan diet are:

1. Avoid meals that are composed of fruits alone. Though, a vegan lifestyle is also composed of fruits, eating fruits alone does not usually beneficial to most people. You may experience some problems such as significant weight loss, dental plaques, mental and emotional imbalances and many more. You should take note that there is no such thing as 100 percent fruit diet. You should take a complete set of meals with vegetables and grains.

2. Consume a lot of green leafy vegetables such as lettuce, spinach, broccoli,
and celery. These vegetables are a high source of minerals, proteins, and some nutrients. Once you start eating more vegetables, you wellness will improve significantly. You should make a habit to add green vegetables with every meal. Sea vegetables such as weeds, kelp, Dulse, and Nori are very nutritious.

3. Cut-out all animal products including dairy, milk and other products that are tested on animals. Also cut-out meat such as chicken, fish and seafood. The meat is normally contaminated with various hormones, chemicals, bacteria and metals. Also, meat can also contain saturated fat, which can increase the risk for heart diseases, cancer, eye problems and other diseases.

There are also some differences between a vegetarian and a vegan. Vegetarians generally abstain from animal flesh, while vegans also avoid animal by-products or products that have been tested on animals. Vegans also do not consume dairy and cheese as well as any material things that are made from animal parts.

There are also healthy habits that you should do when you want a vegan lifestyle. You should exercise daily at least a moderate form of any physical activity for at least 30 minutes to one hour every day. These activities can be a simple walk along the beach, 30 minute-aerobics, trampoline jumping, biking, or just a brisk walk around the town.

Fitness Pros, Health Nuts, Office Slaves, And Home Bodies - Cash In On The Wellness Revolution

Do you know anyone who needs to lose weight?

HAHAHAHA! Stupid question, right?

Let's try this one: Do you know anyone whose health needs some improvement?

HAHAHAHAHA! Stop it - this is supposed to be a serious article!

How about this one: Do you know anyone who is financially set, and never has to worry about money again - for the REST of their lives?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Okay, now this is getting ridiculous. Do you see the madness or the pattern yet in these questions?

Every SINGLE person that you know needs to either lose weight, clean up their health, or make more money. Name one person who doesn't fit into one - if not all - of those descriptions.

You can't do it, can you? Of course not!

So, all of that being said, who do you think is in the best position to take advantage of this horrific state of affairs?

Personal trainers and other fitness professionals? Maybe, but only to a certain degree. Your average personal trainer, nutritionist, or weight loss coach has exactly 24 hours in their day just like you do. If they aren't doing what they do, they are aren't getting paid.

If you know a personal trainer or other fitness professional, I challenge you to ask them if they feel like they spend enough time with their family, or if they love the hours that they work, or if they think they can keep up their present schedule for another 20 or 30 years, or if they feel financially secure and independent. I don't even need to know the answers that you'll be getting, because I've already been there and done that.

Okay, what about your average health nut, a.k.a - gym rat, body nazi, health food junkie, etc. How are they benefitting from all of this? They're not, that's how. In fact, with the increasing number of exercise modalities and nutritional supplements available today, even the die hard health freaks are having trouble maintaining a straight and true course.

Only those who are rock solid with their plans and their follow through are seeing the personal success of their efforts, but they aren't getting any further benefit from the sad state of affairs with the rest of the world.

Let's look at your average corporate worker bee, a.k.a. - corporate slave. How are they benefitting from a world that is falling apart in terms of health, quality of life, and physical fitness?

You guessed it - they're not! They are stuck behind their desks, in their warehouses, out on their job sites, and strapped to their paychecks. They barely know and certainly don't take action about the fact that a health and wellness revolution is literally happening all around them, every minute of every day.

What about the Home Bodies? You know, those lucky few who either stay home with their families, or who own their own businesses? Are you one of those people? If so, what are you doing with your time? Are you taking a crack at getting your piece of the Wellness Revolution, or are you too busy taking the kids to soccer practice?

By now you must be wondering just what is the point to all of this.

This has all been about making a very important point. That point is that our world is literally on the brink of the most incredible health and financial revolution that has ever happened - or will likely ever happen again.

Only those individuals who act now by utilizing "out of the box" thinking can truly improve their own health and quality of life, and also make a fortune helping others to do the same.

No career in the health and fitness industry is going to net you the same result as actually getting out there in the trenches and making a difference.

No amount of exercise or attention to just your own health is going to net you the same result as becoming a Soldier in the Wellness Revolution.

No corporate job - even for a health related company - is going to get you as big of a slice of the pie as simply taking charge of your own efforts to effect change during the revolution.

No amount of encouraging your kids and the local sports leagues to "Go Team!" is going to make a bit of difference in your own checking account, or in your own level of health.

So how CAN you get a piece of all of this action?

Join the Revolution! There are systems in place right now - as you read this very article - that will allow each and every one of you to grasp the details of the Revolution, and to get a handsome piece of the action by taking that information to others.

The ability that you have - at this very moment - to effect a positive change while making good money is available to everyone of any age, and from every single walk of life.

Let's recap:

Your present lifestyle and financial plan will likely leave you with just enough money to go through your Golden Years counting every penny that you spend until you die, and hopefully in the meantime you won't have become a victim of the ever-growing ignorance about truly effective health and fitness solutions.

Or, you make a stand RIGHT NOW. Learn how you can improve your own health, help literally thousands of other people, and make a small fortune in the process by joining the Wellness Revolution.

Are you going to be a part of the future, or a victim of it?

Health And Wellness

Health and Wellness 101

By reading food labels and making nutritious choices for their dogs, "pet parents" can help ensure that their canine companions enjoy longer, healthier and allergy-free lives.

More than 50 percent of dog owners feel their pet suffers from some sort of allergy. While such reactions can be caused by seasonal environmental factors, they are more likely caused by food sensitivities year-round.

Natural foods for dogs and cats made with human-grade ingredients can be an allergy remedy. Ingredients such as deboned meats, free of added hormones and steroids, wholesome grains and fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs provide pets with the nutrients they need and flavor they love in the simplest and healthiest way possible.

Less is more when approaching existing allergy challenges or preventing them from occurring. Wellness Simple Food Solutions are the perfect example. It contains only five simple, balanced ingredients selected for their nutritional value and health benefits.

"The few ingredients that go into the Wellness Simple Food Solutions are all-natural and less likely to cause a reaction," said Deborah Ellinger, President of Wellness. "We believe that a limited-ingredient, all-natural diet is the best approach to alleviating allergies."

Wellness Simple Solutions and the full range of Wellness products are available only through local, independent and specialty pet retailers.
